Business owner Kevan Hunt’s working life went from delivery driver to senior management, before he and his wife Dellis bought The Insulation Warehouse in 2015. Kevan began as delivery driver at Mastertrade in 1992 working through to General Manager for Mico Plumbing over a 24 year career. One of the key lessons he learned there, he says, was about being authentic, instead of trying to copy how someone else did things.
Something he enjoys now is that he can bring new ideas and innovation that benefit the businesses customer, team members and business partners. Decisions can be made quickly which means service levels are high.
A new innovation is a four-day working week for installers. They are paid on a square metre basis, but by working a bit harder and smarter, they can do as much in four days as they were doing in five, and have a three-day weekend every week. It's a win win for all and the team are loving it.
“The other thing I really like is insulation makes a measurable difference for our customers.” Kevan sees the financial side of the business as an outcome of work, and not the reason for it. “The stuff that keeps you going each day is the relationships.” That’s probably why he loves helping and seeing people grow and develop in the business.
Outside work, boating and fishing are a big part of Kevan’s life. "Family time is something that we value for ourselves and our team members and we will continue to innovate to try and give our team a better work / life balance" says Kevan.
